About RIE Training

What is an Orton-Gillingham Training?

The Orton-Gillingham (OG) Approach, developed in the early 20th century by neuropsychiatrist Dr. Samuel Orton and educator Anna Gillingham, is a direct, explicit, multisensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive method for teaching literacy. While the approach is especially effective for individuals with dyslexia, it is grounded in the science of reading and benefits all learners.

During Orton-Gillingham training, educators, tutors, specialists, and even parents or caregivers gain the knowledge and tools to implement this approach with fidelity. Participants learn how to design and deliver individualized lessons that build strong foundational literacy skills by integrating visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning pathways.

This training empowers participants to:

  • Understand the structure of the English language
  • Use multisensory techniques to teach reading, writing, and spelling
  • Assess student needs and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Support learners with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences using research-based methods

Whether you're a classroom teacher, interventionist, tutor, or parent, OG training offers a powerful toolkit to help all students become confident, successful readers.
